Lift trucks are important pieces of machinery used widely in business, specially within distribution centers, warehouses, storage handling and industrial facilities. A lift truck is made of hundreds of parts, including the carriage, the cab, the power source, the engine and the wheels. Forklifts normally have a range of attachments too. The following are some of the most important parts of a lift truck.
Engine of the Forklift - At the back of the machine, the lift truck has its power source. The various kinds of engine on the forklift would require varying power sources. Like for example, a lift truck with an IC engine could have any of the following as its source of power: CNG gas, LP gas, gasoline or diesel. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Truck Frame - the base of the lift truck and the most essential of all the forklift parts is the truck frame. This forms the machine's core. All other forklift components are attached to the base, including the overhead guard, counterweight, mast, wheels and axles. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks could be part of the frame assembly too.
Counterweight Lift Truck Parts - While lifting heavy cargo, the counterweight enables the machinery to be balanced. This specific component is cast iron and comes attached to the rear of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck so as to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being carried or lifted on the front. The heavy lead-acid battery in an electric forklift provides balance and may function as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - this area is where the operator sits and drives the machine. Some lift trucks have a cab area which is open to the air and some have closed cabs. There are really numerous components located within the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such essential components like for example the operator controls, steering wheel, seats, pedals, levers and switches. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
