Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on a straight, extendable arm which is situated on a rotating turntable. Typically, telescoping boom lifts are utilized for jobs which require reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for example, employees can carry out exterior renovations or repairs on buildings of medium height but using these lifts rather than having the additional work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The bucket of the boom lift normally only holds a single worker. These buckets are more suitable to specific tasks such as electrical repair, as opposed to general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are offered with both outdoor and indoor tires and come in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Underneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the machine gets its name. When the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. As these machinery should be directly positioned below the work site, these units are way more limited in their use as opposed to boom lifts.
Scissor lifts do, however, provide bigger platforms which enable the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface when the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these types of machines, since they need to sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are ideal for being used for window installation or cladding, as they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a good option for window cleaning applications or exterior repairs.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle usually utilized to raise personnel for various tasks done at heights. Usually, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and operates the equipment. There is a bucket for where the worker can stand along with an actuator arm for lifting the boom and a winch for lifting.
Boom trucks take employees to heights which would normally be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to raise heavy supplies or equipment from one location to another. There are a variety of different crane types that could carry out a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of machinery excel at different jobs and are suitable for specific applications and completing particular jobs.
