As opposed to a sit-down model, the stand-up lift truck unit is really different to use. The way at which you pick up loads and your movements are completely different. If you do not have proper training for operating a stand-up unit, you can possibly cause harm to yourself or to co-workers. When operating a stand-up unit, you must follow the correct safety rules. There are several basic operating standards which need to be met when operating a stand-up unit.
To begin on a stand-up model lift truck, it is important to get a good feel for the steering knob and the controls. Instead of a steering wheel, the steering is handled with the knob steering plate. Remember that this specific knob moves very fast, hence, you must be accustomed to moving it carefully so as to be sure not to over steer. The horn is situated on the control handle, as is the control for forwards, backwards and the movement of the forks. The floor pedal allows the forklift power to move.
Turn the key to start the equipment's engine if you are set to start. The forks must not be extended at this stage. When you are moving all-around the floor, the forks must be pointed a little upwards. Never drive with the forks in their extended position. If you are traveling forwards, move the control handle forward and step on the pedal in order to make the lift move forward. If you are backing up, be certain to beep your horn to alert individuals around you. Look behind you prior to stepping on the pedal in order to make sure the path is clear and safe. Next, while stepping on the pedal, pull the control handle towards you. Stay focused and alert and make sure that you are operating in a safe manner at all times.
When it comes to turning corners, turn your steering knob in the direction you have to go while keeping your hand on the control handle and your foot on the power pedal. When turning right, the steering knob will move in a clockwise direction during forward travel. If you are turning left, your steering knob would go in a counter-clockwise direction.
The stand-up units take some getting used to, specially if you have only operated sit down units. With some training and taking some time to figure out the machinery, you could handle loads quickly and efficiently in little time.
