A kind of machine in the material handling industry that can be used to raise and move loads from one location to another is called a forklift. Each forklift part has a particular function. Various parts can be utilized to move the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lower and lift the load. There are various kinds of masts for lifting loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located within the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is beneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
Situated in the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all situated within the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift components is the frame of the truck. This includes the counterweights situated at the back which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
