Forklift Tires

When it comes to types of installation, there are two types regarding forklift tires: standard and press on. Usually, press on tires are used on electric forklifts and those kinds of forklifts operating in indoor applications such as warehouses. The press on tires can be used also in light industrial operation as well.

Surfaces which are rough or uneven need more traction and tougher tires. Hence, standard tires are normally utilized. Then again, they are mostly utilized on forklifts that operate in outdoor environment.

Because there are a lot of different kinds of forklifts, there are also many different types of forklift tires. The kinds of tires that are most frequently utilized are polyurethane, pneumatic and solid. The type of tires are dictated by where and what the forklift is utilized for. It is vital to acquire the correct kind of tires for the job and ensuring the proper choice would have a huge impact on both safety and performance.

For outdoor forklifts that have to operate in an all-terrain environment like on a construction site, the best alternative will be pneumatic tires. These are constructed out of durable rubber and then filled with air, like a truck or tractor tire. Pneumatic tires create an air cushion between the forklift and the terrain. This design significantly lessens the wear and tear on the equipment and creates a very comfortable ride for the operator. The deep, thick treads on the tires provide the necessary traction required for use on surfaces that are uneven and rough.

For light industrial applications, both indoors and outdoors, solid tires are suitable. They are fabricated out of constructed solid, tough rubber. This helps them to stay safer from blowouts, popping like pneumatic tires or damage due to puncture wounds. Because these tires are not filled with air, they can not provide the cushion effect. This fact makes them not suitable for use on rough terrain. Some solid tires are made with holes in the sidewalls to provide a rather softer ride. The only issue is that this kind of construction makes the load carrying capacity of the forklift less.

Though they are intended for indoor warehouse applications only, polyurethane forklift tires will normally outlast both rubber tire designs. The load capacity of polyurethane is a lot higher than that of a rubber tire. These tires work great with well with electric forklifts due to the additional weight of the batteries of the machine. Because of the tire's lower rolling resistance, another advantage of this particular kind of tire is the extended battery life.
