A stock picker, also called an order picker is a machinery that is quite like a forklift. It enables the driver to utilize forks to pick up a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain items, and this feature is something the forklift does not provide. Typically, order pickers are operated by electricity. These equipment are mainly utilized in a warehouse environment. Most often they are used for moving pallets and doing certain jobs in the shelving and stocking department.
The operator of an order picker uses controls to control the unit from a platform setting that usually sits quite near the ground. The operator is able to direct the machine to go forward, backward or steer it from side to side. Once the operator has positioned the unit in place the tines could be raised to the required level that makes it very convenient for the operator. For example, if the needed materials, are situated on a shelf which the operator cannot reach, then entire platform can be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
When the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker can be driven to its next load. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker while the platform is raised, however, several businesses might have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker could also place pallets on a shelf. Stackers and forklifts may be utilized to finish these specific tasks at some companies instead.
